When I started thinking about SkillProfile one of the driving forces was the idea that your knowledge, skills, attitudes and overall competencies are a very personal part of yourself as a person. I’ve always thought that the idea that your employer owns all the data and information about your performance is not the way it should work.

A person is much more than their employment profile, resume or CV. Everything you do builds skills and refines your knowledge and attitudes and many of those activities aren’t reflected in a person’s resume or CV. Employer-based talent management programs are geared toward improving the employee in the context of their employment arrangement. I think it’s wrong that many companies don’t consider volunteer or independent project work with the same value as they do paid employment. Also I think it’s de-humanizing to see people as only what kind of work they get paid to do.

At SkillProfile I want to change that perception. I want people to be able to own their own personalized profile of Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes and Competencies and carry that with them throughout their lives building and learning through the process. The first step is assessing your profile with our new app that is coming out in June and from there the future is yours. I would like to see a day when people can use SkillProfile to grow everything from their creative pursuits, hobbies, and other collaborative efforts along with their professional or trade skills and knowledge and manage them as they’re developed throughout your life.

Recognizing that every person is an individual and the way they will grow into the people they want to be is through methodical practice, feedback and more practice and I want SkillProfile to be part of that journey.
